So you want to start a podcast. Then the questions start piling up.

I’ve asked hundreds of people the same question: why haven’t you started yet? Here are their real answers, and how the course handles each one.

“

I don’t have the slightest idea how…

How the course helps

You don’t need one. 25 short lessons walk you through every step, in the order you’ll do them.

“

The technology makes my head swim.

How the course helps

Copy my exact setup and recording template, with click-by-click tutorials for Windows and Mac.

“

I just don’t know what to podcast about.

How the course helps

The idea mapping lesson and worksheet in Module 1 help you find a topic you could talk about for years.

“

I’m a nobody. Who’s going to listen to me?

How the course helps

You don’t need to be famous or an expert, just a step ahead of the people you’re talking to.

“

I don’t know what equipment would be the best to use by quality and by price.

How the course helps

Module 2 tells you exactly what to buy, so you don’t waste money on the wrong gear.

“

I need to set aside a time to do it.

How the course helps

Lessons are short and self-paced. Plan on about 2 hours a week, and batch recording keeps it manageable once you’re live.

“

I’d like to create something successful rather than something that will be subpar or crash and burn.

How the course helps

You’ll follow a tested launch plan, including a trailer and a lesson on preparing for “failure” before it happens.

“

I keep thinking I need to have a stronger following.

How the course helps

Nobody starts with a following. Your podcast is how you build one, and Module 6 covers growing your listeners.

On your own, each one sends you off to Google, where you find ten articles with twelve different answers. None of them fit together. So you read one more article, watch one more video… and your podcast stays an idea.

Ross Winn

I’ve been there. When I started my first show, I worried I wouldn’t have enough to say, had no idea how to get guests, and spent weeks on things that turned out not to matter.

The technical side of podcasting is easier than it’s ever been.

Recording, editing, and publishing used to take real know-how. Today it takes a few clicks, if you know which clicks.

What hasn’t changed is the part that decides whether anyone listens:

1

Picking the right topic

2

Planning episodes people look forward to

3

Launching in a way that gets you found

That’s where most new podcasters get stuck, and it’s what this course focuses on.

Why now

More people listen to podcasts than ever, and there are far fewer active shows than blogs or YouTube channels.

That means a new show that launches well can still stand out.

Bar chart: the global podcasting market grows from $34.3 billion in 2025 to a projected $318.5 billion in 2035, split between audio-only and video podcasts

This has helped SOOO much! Not only did you give me all the tools to get started but you definitely helped me know exactly what I’m going to talk about, name my podcast and so so many ideas.

Thanks so much for offering this course. It’s been extremely helpful. I was genuinely lost before this.

Buy the right gear, make cover art, and line up guests

3

Record & edit

Copy my setup and make your audio sound great

4

Get ready

Set up hosting, a trailer, and buzz before day one

5

Launch

Go live on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and the rest

6

Is this course right for you?

This is for you if…

  • You have a reason to podcast (a story, a cause, a business, a ministry, or friends who won’t stop talking) but no first step
  • You’d rather follow one plan in order than piece it together from YouTube videos
  • You’re not technical and want to see every click
  • You can set aside about 2 hours a week while you go through it

This isn’t for you if…

  • You’ve been podcasting for years and want growth tactics or sponsorships
  • You want to make a video or YouTube podcast (it’s a bit more complicated, and the equipment costs a lot more)
  • You want someone to set everything up for you
  • You don’t plan to do the worksheets

I’ll personally review your podcast

Once you have 5 episodes live, fill out a short form so I know where to find your show. I’ll listen and send you detailed feedback and suggested changes on your:

  • Title
  • Cover art
  • Audio quality
  • Episode format
  • Intro & description

You won’t find anyone else doing this because it takes time. I do it because I want your show to succeed.

You have other ways to learn podcasting

An in-person workshop

$3,000+

You could spend $3,000 or more, plus airfare and a hotel, to learn in person for a day or two. That works for some people, but you have to wait for the next one and spend thousands before you record anything.

Figuring it out on your own

You could keep Googling equipment, editing, interviewing, acoustics, and marketing. You’ll get a different answer from every source, and they won’t fit together into one plan. You also don’t know what you don’t know, so it’s hard to even know what to search for. That’s normal. I was there too when I started.

“I’m not good with technology and don’t want to waste funds on the wrong equipment.” (from my reader survey)

Doing nothing

How often have you told yourself you need one more idea, one more plan, or one more article first? I’ve done the same thing. A week turns into a month, and years later you’re wondering why you never started.

“Could’ve started one like 5 years ago just beating around the bush for multiple reasons.” (from my reader survey)

Frequently asked questions

Is this right for my kind of show?

People start podcasts to share their knowledge, grow or start a business, talk about mental health, spread the gospel, tell a story, or interview interesting people. Or any number of other reasons. I’ve seen it all! The course covers what you need for almost any kind of show, solo or with a co-host or guests. The exception is a highly produced fiction audio drama. If that’s your plan, email me and I’ll connect you with the right people.

What if I don’t have an idea for a show?

No problem! You’ll work through a series of exercises to figure out what you’re interested in, and we’ll make sure you have plenty to talk about before you get started.

I’m not tech-savvy at all. Will I be able to do this?

Absolutely! I’ve helped people of all experience levels, from 8 to 80 years old. You’ll see exactly how to hook up your equipment, use editing software, and publish your podcast. Follow along step by step.

Who’s going to listen to me? I don’t have an audience yet.

That’s how almost every podcast starts. You don’t need a following first. The podcast is how you build one. The course shows you how to pick a topic people are already looking for, plan episodes they’ll look forward to, and launch so new listeners can find you.

I’m not an expert. Can I still start a podcast?

Yes. You don’t have to be the best in your field, just a step ahead of the people you’re talking to. The idea mapping worksheet helps you find your topic in the skills you’ve built, the things you know, and the challenges you’ve overcome.

Am I too old (or too young) to start a podcast?

No. People in high school and people in their 70s have joined my free email course. One of them wrote, “I’m 73 and soon may not be able to do anything BUT talk!” If you have something to say, you’re the right age, and your life experience is a head start.

How much time will my podcast take each week?

While you’re taking the course, plan on about 2 hours a week: watch a module, then do its worksheet or setup step. At one module a week, you’d go from blank page to a live show in about six weeks. After launch, the course shows you how to record and edit several episodes in one sitting and schedule them in advance, so your show fits around work and family.

Shouldn’t I wait until I know more?

Waiting won’t make your first episode better. Planning will. The first module walks you through choosing your topic, listing episode ideas, and picking a format before you record anything, so you start with a plan instead of guessing.

Will I have to buy equipment or software?

You don’t have to. I do recommend investing in a decent microphone and a paid podcast hosting provider. You can use free recording and editing software, and I’ll show you how.

How long does the course take?

The video lessons add up to a little over 3 hours, so you could watch them all in a weekend. The real work happens between lessons: filling in the worksheets, picking your gear, recording your first episodes. It’s self-paced, so take it one module at a time and move on when you’re ready.

I’ve already started a podcast. Is this for me?

If you’re a few episodes in and feel like you’re guessing, yes. The lessons on show format, episode segments, intros, getting guests, and improving your sound quality will tighten up what you’re already doing. And once you have 5 episodes live, I’ll personally review your show and tell you what to change. If you’ve been podcasting for years and already have a steady audience, this course is probably too basic for you.

Does this cover video podcasts or YouTube?

No. Podcasting Simplified is built for audio podcasts, and every recording and editing lesson is about audio. A video or YouTube podcast is a bit more complicated to make, and the equipment costs a lot more, so this course isn’t the right fit for one yet. A video course or add-on is something I’m planning for the future.

Is the course up to date?

Yes. When the tools, platforms, or best practices change, I update the lessons, and you get every update free for life.

When does the course start?

As soon as you sign up. There are no live classes or set times. It’s self-paced, with instant lifetime access, and any updates or new material are free.

What’s your refund policy?

You have 30 days. If you’re not happy, email me asking for a refund and I’ll refund 100% of what you paid.

Start your podcast today

People write to me because they want to teach their community about health, keep preaching when they can’t get to a church, connect with a daughter, or get back behind the mic after decades in radio. Someone out there is waiting to hear what you have to say.

You get all 6 modules, every worksheet and template, lifetime access, and a personal review of your show from me. If it’s not for you, you have 30 days to get a full refund.

A year from now, you could have a year of episodes behind you. Or your podcast could still be on your someday list.
